What Do Dialysis Patients Need to Be Concerned AboutDialysis is needed when people develop Kidney Failure. It can replace the kidneys to remove excessive fluid and wastes from the bloodstream. Normally, this process is long and sometimes painful, so dialysis patients need to concerns a lot. They may be told to be concerned about several aspects, for example:

1. Fluid

Damaged kidneys cannot remove excessive fluid adequately, so edema (or swelling) occurs. Since the amount of fluid that can be removed during dialysis is limited, patients have to restrict their fluid intake.

Try the following tips to reduce your fluid intake:

- Try not to drink water. Stay busy.

- Never gulp down fluid. Always sip it.

- Drink fluids like lime juice other than water.

- Have very cold or hot fluids.

- Reduce the amount of salt.

2. Protein

People on dialysis need to eat more high-quality protein foods like lean meat, fish, poultry, fresh pork, or egg white. About 8-10 ounces of high quality protein intake is recommended.

3. Mineral elements

Potassium and phosphorous level should be under control, because high levels of these two minerals can cause other health problems.

4. Salt & Sodium

- Use less salt and eat fewer salty foods: this may help to control blood pressure and reduce weight gains between dialysis sessions.

- Use herbs, spices, and low-salt flavor enhancers in place of salt.

- Avoid salt substitutes made with potassium.

5. Vitamins and calories

Dialysis patients may be weak due to some digestive problems. Weight loss is such a common result. Therefore, vitamins and calories are also essential for providing them with energy.

6. Control blood pressure and sugar levels

High blood pressure and diabetes are known as the most dangerous factor that will aggravate the illness condition, so you should take measures to make them within normal range as possibly as you can.

7. Avoid strong activities

You can do such mild exercise such as Tai Chi, walking, swimming, and biking.

To sum up, dialysis is not an easy process for many Kidney Failure patients. You may be wondering whether there are some natural alternatives to dialysis. Fortunately, the answer is yes.
