Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a group of disorders that result from the formation and progressive enlargement of cysts in the kidneys without dysplasia, usually leading to renal failure.

Can ADPKD Patients Have No Family History

ADPKD stands for autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease and it is one of the two types of PKD. Though it is a common renal hereditary disease, there are reports that some ADPKD patients can have no family history of the disease and they are the only member in their family to be found have the disease.

How to account for this? Because according to the hereditary mode of PKD, every generation will have the disease. However there are still about 40% PKD patients are found to have no family history of the disease and the onset of the disease can be gene mutation.

ADPKD is a genetic kidney disease due to gene mutation. At present 2 mutated genes are known to cause PKD---PKD1 and PKD2. At present, environmental pollutions and various toxins in our surroundings are great threatens to our health. Many factors can cause gene mutation and lead to genetic diseases.
