What Does Dark Browny Red Urine Mean for PKD

Yesterday, my urine was very very dark browny red, but it is OK now. I have Polycystic Kidney Disease. What does dark browny red urine mean for PKD? Please tell me wether it is a symptom of kidney cyst rupture.

The Doctor Answered:

Dark browny red urine means there are some blood red cells in your urine and it is called hematuria clinically. The more dark your urine, the more blood red cells in your urine. In most cases, the following factors can cause blood urine.

● Kidney stone: it is a common complication of PKD. When kidney stones more through urinary tract, it is easy to cause bleeding and then blood urine occurs easily.

● Urinary tract infections: with the growth of kidney cysts or kidney cyst rupture, hematuria occurs easily. If left untreated, infections will cause further kidney damage and more severe complications.

● The damaged kidney filters: When the kidney cysts grow too big, they will oppress their surrounding kidney tissues and cause kidney damage. As a result, the kidneys can’t play its function normally and some blood red cells and protein may leak from the kidneys.
