How to Relieve Pain in The Right Side of Back for PKD

I am having pain in the right side of my back. I have PKD. Just looking to see if there is anything I can do for some relief right now. Tylenol isn’t helping much. What should I do?

The Doctor Answered:

Back pain is one of most common symptoms for people with Polycystic Kidney Disease. Some doctors may prescribe tylenol to ease patients’ mild or severe back pain. However, it doesn’t work well all the time. In some cases, it may cause some side effects such as nausea, itching, loss of appetite, dark pain, etc. If you have one or more symptoms, you should stop taking this medication and call your doctor at once.

In fact, some modifications of lifestyle and diet can ease your back pain to some extent. Most of them are easy to do and worth a try.

● Try not to wear high heels.

● Avoid sleeping on the hammock.

● Learn to relieve your stress through some soft exercise such as walking and Tai Chi.

● Keep the correct sitting posture. For example, if you need to sit on a chair, you had better make your back close to the back of chair.

● Don’t blend to lift heavy objects.

● Quit alcohol and beer.

● Eat some foods that can help ease your back pain such as almond seed and almond milk. Many other foods also have this benefit. You can ask the online doctor to know such a food list.

The above methods can help you alleviate your pain either in the right side or left side of the back naturally and effectively. However, they can do little to large kidney cyst that is the root cause of your back pain. Therefore, you should also take some effective treatment to shrink your kidney cysts.
