I’m 60 years old. There is a cyst growing in my kidney that makes me worried, but my doctor tells me that I don’t need any specific treatment at present. When should patient with renal cyst accept treatment? Please give me an answer, doc

The Doctor Answered:

When Should Patient with Renal Cyst Accept Treatment Simple renal cyst is a fairly common kidney disorder for people especially the one above 50 years old. Generally, it won’t cause any complications, so the only thing you need to do is just to develop a healthy diet, do moderate exercise and take examination regularly. However, you have to accept treatment if the following conditions occur.

The first one is your kidney cyst rupture. If one cyst ruptures, the sac fluid will spread to other organs and cause some severe complications such as urinary tract infections, blood urine and kidney damage.

The second one is that your cyst grows too big. When the kidney cyst is bigger than 4cm, it will oppress its surrounding tissues. If uncontrolled effectively, more and more kidney function will lose. As a result, renal failure may occur.

The last one is the onset of severe complications. High blood pressure, proteinuria and blood urine all can contribute to complications of renal cysts. If left untreated, they will cause further kidney damage. In this situation, relative treatment is necessary.
