Why does renal cortical cyst happen to my baby? I have searched many papers, all of which say renal cortical cyst usually occur in people over age 50. Is renal cortical cyst in children dangerous?

Cysts in children can occur as an isolated finding or as part of a syndrome. Generally, renal cortical cyst in children is due to the following factors:

- Cystic renal dysplasia : It is the most common cause of cyst in children and usually only affects one kidney.

- Simple renal cortical cyst : It rarely occur in children. If occurring, it is single or a few and its size commonly ranges from 0.5 to 2 cm.

- Genetic disorder s: Polycystic Kidney Disease especially ARPKD may occur in children. ARPKD is more likely to cause kidney failure or even death before adulthood.
