Is Creatinine 2.7 High in Men

One doctor ever told me that the normal creatinine level is different between men and women. I am a man and my creatinine level is 2.7 mg/dl. Is creatinine 2.7 high in men?

The Doctor Answered:

Yes, it is indeed higher than the normal level for male. Creatinine is one breakdown product of creatine. In our muscle, creatine produces creatinine gradually through irreversible dehydration reaction of enzyme. Creatinine is one small molecular substance and renal tubule usually reabsorb little creatinine, so nearly all of creatinine produced by muscle metabolism can be removed from the body via urine.

For male, the normal creatinine level is 0.6-1.2 mg/dl. Even though they may change from lab to lab, the normal values won’t be higher than 1.5mg/dl. Therefore, we can know creatinine 2.7 is high in men.

Please, don’t dejected or depressed! There are still effective treatments to help lower high creatinine level. For example, some herbal teas such as dandelion root tea and nettle leaf tea are able to increase kidneys’ filtration function, thus eliminating more waste products including creatinine from the body. Without enough creatinine building up in the blood, your serum creatinine level will come down spontaneously. Many other foods and herbs also have such an effect, consult the online doctor for detailed information.
