Can 1.7cm Kidney Cyst be Cancerous

I got a 1.7cm kidney cyst. Also, I had previous symptoms of nausea, burning urination and high leukocyte count in my urine. Can 1.7cm kidney cyst be cancerous?

The Doctor Answered:

Can 1.7cm Kidney Cyst be CancerousAccording to different structures, kidney cyst has two types: simple kidney cysts and complex kidney cyst. Generally, simple kidney cyst won’t develop kidney cancer, while complex kidney cyst has a high risk for kidney cancer and its incidence is about 13% to 90%.

In most cases, simple kidney cyst doesn’t cause any symptom when it is smaller than 3cm. 1.7cm kidney cyst is still not big enough to cause so many problems, if it is simple and you only have this one cyst. Here, an accurate diagnosis is needed to detect whether your kidney cyst is complex. If yes, it indeed can be cancerous.
