Do Cysts Grow on Both the Outside and Inside of the kidneys

I have a 4.5cm kidney cyst on the inside of the kidneys, and I also suffer from some symptoms, dull back pain and blood urine. Do cysts grow on both the outside and inside of the kidneys?

The Doctor Answered:

Yes, cysts indeed can grow on both the outside and inside of the kidneys. The location of the cysts can determine their severity and the difficulty of the treatment to some extent. Generally, outside kidney cyst is easier to handle because the needle during aspiration or active ingredients of herbal medicines can reach the cyst directly.

However, with its expansion, outside kidney cyst is more likely to rupture and then cause symptoms and discomforts. Among them, back pain and blood urine are common.

Inside kidney cyst, compared with outside kidney cyst, is difficult to handle, and its symptoms are more severe. No matter which type of kidney cyst you have, remember to take effective treatment timely if it becomes too big or symptomatic.
