We cannot say it’s wrong, but the more water PKD patients drink, the worse of disease condition. PKD patients should drink a proper amount of water and it will help delay the progression of PKD.

For PKD, there are mainly two situations to notice the amount of water to drink.

A. If PKD patients remove urine normally, they are suggested to drink 1000-1200ml water one day (besides drinking water, the amount of water that our body need comes from foods and other form’s water that comes from sugar, fat and protein). Drinking enough water can help them remove toxin and waste with the form of urine. This amount can ensure the normal urine--1500ml a day. For these patients, drinking 1000-1200ml water can help treat PKD.

B. If PKD patients cannot remove urine normally, they should limit the amount of water every day in order to reduce the burden to the kidney. At that time, most kidney functions have been damaged and kidney can not remove toxins and waste with urine. These patients should notice the water intake and prevent exceed water making water-sodium retention with sodium. That will aggravate the condition of PKD.
