PKD & Kidney Cysts

Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a group of disorders that result from the formation and progressive enlargement of cysts in the kidneys without dysplasia, usually leading to renal failure.

PKD in Stage 4, Creatinine 2.8, High BUN 34

I have PKD for 16 years. Now, I believe it is PKD in stage 4, because my last blood test shows creatinine 2.8 and BUN 34. How fast my condition deteriorates? These days the severe back pain and other complications nearly drive me crazy. No one can understand how I am eager to find an effective treatment to improve my health rather than wait to begin dialysis or kidney transplant.

In fact, many other patients are also faced with the above problems: kidney function decline, high creatinine level and high blood urea nitrogen (BUN). As fluid-filled cysts grow, their condition will become worse and worse. If left untreated, a large part of them may suffer from renal failure without any expectation. At this situation, exploring an effective treatment has a vital significance.

Fortunately, some treatments indeed can help solve these problems.

We know elevated creatinine and BUN level is due to the heavy loss of kidney function caused by large kidney cysts. As kidney function declines, the kidneys can’t do their job normally that make patients have to rely on some treatments to live.

Dialysis, a kidney replacement therapy, is one common choice, but people with PKD in stage 4 are not recommended to begin dialysis, because they still have more than 15% of kidney function. The reason is that the longer you on dialysis, the more complications you have. Thereby, no one wants to live with dialysis, if they have other choices.

New developments in PKD treatment

According to the characteristics of PKD, kidney experts have explored a great breakthrough for PKD to dry up patients’ kidney cysts, activate damaged kidney cells and protect the remaining kidney function. Then, more wastes including creatinine and bun can be discharged from the body so long as impaired kidney cells recover to work again. Never feel alone or frightened, because we are always here to help you fight against your PKD.
