Can Renal Cysts Cause Frequent UTIRenal cysts are fluid-filled sacs, which are divided into two types: simple renal cysts and complex renal cysts. Usually, simple renal cysts cause no symptoms in the early stage. While complex kidney cysts are dangerous because they will cause various complications such as back pain, abdominal pain, fever, hematuria and urinary tract infection (UTI).

I have to say that, unlike other complications, urinary tract infection always relapses. Therefore, patients with large size of complex kidney cysts may have frequent UTI.

Then how can you know you have got a urinary tract infection? There are two ways: symptoms and diagnosis.

Symptoms of urinary tract infection due to renal cyst

- Urination changes: Frequent urination, urgent urination, painful urination and sometimes even uncontrolled urine will occur. In other cases, the pain is caused by kidney stones, especially when the stones pass through the urethra.

- Abnormal urine: Normally, you cannot see the difference, but bacteriuria, pyuria, hematuria and pneumaturia may be diagnosed.

- Back pain: It is the most commonly seen symptoms of urinary tract infection. When the urethra is stimulated by renal cysts, it produces tension that causes back pain.
