PKD & Kidney Cysts

Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a group of disorders that result from the formation and progressive enlargement of cysts in the kidneys without dysplasia, usually leading to renal failure.

Three Most Important Things for Kidney Patients to Improve ConditionIf you want to improve your kidney condition, you should do the following three things.

Blood pressure

Among patients with chronic kidney disease, 60% have hypertension. With the aggravation of kidney disease, the incidence of hypertension is also increasing. In the end stage renal disease (ESRD) or uremia stage, hypertension patients can account for 90%.

In clinical work, we found that as long as there is no hypertension, it is basically not difficult to treat, the patient's treatment is relatively smooth, and the condition will be more stable. And for the patients with hypertension, it is difficult to improve proteinuria and serum creatinine level.

Most renal failure are developed from proteinuria, and reducing urinary protein is the main work of most kidney patients. For patients with mild disease and drug sensitivity, the treatment objective is to reduce urine protein to less than 0.3 g/24 hours (complete remission). The goal for most patients is less than 0.5 g/d (clinical remission); The worst is to limit the amount of protein in the urine to less than 1 g/day (small amount of proteinuria). Otherwise, unless you have membranous nephropathy, a kidney disease that allows more than 1 gram of urine protein, kidney function in people with other kidney diseases will gradually decline until kidney failure.

Kidney function

The normal glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is about 120, which means that when we score healthy kidneys, the full score is 120.

Normal people after the age of 40, with the aging of the body, will decline by 1 point a year.

While people with kidney disease tend to lose four points or more a year.

When the score is below 90, we call it renal insufficiency (chronic renal failure), and creatinine begins to rise.

When the score is below 45, the progression of kidney failure is irreversible, with creatinine 265 or so.

When the score is below 15, it is uremia.

Therefore, the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) of 45 is the bottom line for the improvement of patients with chronic kidney disease. Once this bottom line is broken, there will be no cure for kidney disease, and the only way is to improve the quality of life.

All in all, kidney patients should pay attention to the above three aspects. For more information on kidney disease treatment, please leave a message below or contact online doctor.
