Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a group of disorders that result from the formation and progressive enlargement of cysts in the kidneys without dysplasia, usually leading to renal failure.

Conventional tests

* Blood and urine tests: These tests can help judge whether their serum creatinine level, blood urine nitrogen, urea acid, etc are abnormal and whether blood urine or proteinuria occurs.

* Family history: From the above, we have known PKD is an inherited kidney. Children of parents who have PKD have a 50% chance of getting this disease, so family history is usually one test for PKD.

* Computerized tomography (CT scan): CT scan shows enlargement of bilateral kidneys and the renal shape is lobulated with numerous fluid-filled sacs.

* MRI: It is an effective test in detecting aneurysm which is a major cause of early death for PKD patients.

* B ultrasound: It is a most reliable method to diagnose PKD, because it can help shows many dark areas in bilateral kidneys.

Immune special diagnosis

In order to choose correct blood purifying method to cleanse wastes from the body and select accurate therapy to treat PKD, some immune special diagnostic tests, including BUN, creatinine, UA, Cyc C, RBP, HCY, β 2-microglobulin and PTH, are often used.

In addition, UTP, U-malb, U-TRF, U-IGG, β 2-microglobulin, α1-microglobulin, α2-macroglobulin, κ light chain, λ light chain, U- NAG, U-GGT, and Uosm, are taken to detect the position of kidney damage and make clear the severity of patients’ condition.
