PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) causes a cluster of cysts on kidneys. These fluid-filled sacs may cause kidney damage and leads to Kidney Failure. How many years will PKD develop into Kidney Failure?
Two types of Kidney Failure
1. ADPKD (Autosomal Dominant PKD) is the most common type of the disease. It usually appears in midlife and causes few symptoms before.
2. ARPKD (Autosomal Recessive PKD) is a rare type of PKD causing symptoms in infants and young children.
PKD and Kidney Failure
Kidney Failure occurs when the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) levels below 15 ml/min. When that happens, dialysis or kidney transplant may be needed.
On average, half of people with ADPKD will develop into Kidney Failure by age of 60. Children born with ARPKD usually develop Kidney Failure within a few years.
However, not everyone with Polycystic Kidney Disease will go on to have Kidney Failure. If they can control symptoms and prevent the cysts from growing, they can avoid dialysis at the end stage of PKD.
Symptoms of ADPKD
This type of PKD usually progresses very slowly, so it causes chronic kidney damage, making it difficult to be treated. When you have any of the following symptoms, you should take immediate treatments.
-Pain in the lower back, sides, abdomen or groins
-Nausea and/or vomiting
-High blood pressure
-Blood in urine (hematuria)
-Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
Treatment for PKD
No matter which type of PKD, the key of treatment should be enhancing the kidney function. Medicines for controlling symptoms are not enough. I recommend you to add traditional Chinese herbs in your treatment plan. Herbs we choose can expand blood vessels, reduce inflammation and degrade extracellular matrixes. Based on these medicines, we innovates several natural therapies, such as Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy, Medicated Bath, and Foot Bath, etc. They are all external applications, so they are natural for patients.
