How Does Polycystic Disorder Affect the BodyPolycystic disorder has a medical term, namely, Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD). This kind of disease is a genetic disorder characterized by a cluster of cysts on the kidneys. How does polycystic disorder affect the body?

Like other chronic kidney disease, Polycystic Kidney Disease is divided into five stages. As stage advanced, this kidney disease can affect more other organs and systems. You may experience these symptoms:

● Back Pain

This may be the first discomforts that make patients to take a test for PKD. This is caused by enlarged kidney cysts. As a result, renal tissues are compressed, leading to back pain. If the cysts get infected, the painful feeling will become severe and can travels up to the groin and abdomen.

● Hematuria

About half of PKD patients may have hematuria (blood in the urine). This is caused by kidney cysts rupture. Proteinuria may be accompanied but may not more than 1.0g per day.

● High Blood Pressure

Compression from enlarged kidney cyst stimulates the kidneys secret more renins, starting the system of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone. This is the direct cause of hypertension.

● Repeated Urinary Tract Infection

This is one of the common complications of PKD. Patients may have a painful and burning sensation when you have urination.

● Renal Dysfuntion

When renal tissues are damaged, the most obvious result is urine changes. Frequent and urgent urine is easy to occur, especially at night.

● Cysts on Other Organs

Polycystic Kidney Disease can also attack other organs except for the kidneys. Polycystic Liver Disease (PLD) and Brain Aneurysm are the most seen in PKD patients.

The above are the common symptoms or complications in PKD patients. In some cases, they may also experience digestive problems, sleep disorder, itchy skin, headache, etc.
