Creatinine 6.5 indicates Polycystic Kidney Disease patients’ kidney function has lost severely. If left alone, the deposition of creatinine will aggravate patients’ illness condition. Then, how to lower creatinine 6.5 for Polycystic Kidney Disease becomes patients’ biggest concern.

Creatinine 6.5 and PKD

PKD is progressive chronically. In the early stage, all of PKD cysts are small and under the capacity of kidneys, so kidneys can still eliminate waste products including creatinine sufficiently. However, with its progress, some of these cysts grow too big so as to damage kidney functioning tissues. When more than 50% of kidney function is lost, creatinine level raises.

Here, we can know enlarged kidney cysts and low kidney function is the reason that patients’ creatinine level raises so high.

How to lower creatinine 6.5 for Polycystic Kidney Disease

Since creatinine 6.5 has been much higher than the normal level (0.5-1.1mg/dl for female and 0.6-1.2mg/dl for male), diet modifications can’t work very well. On the contrary, some medications or blood purification is needed.

1. Medications: To lower high creatinine level, some medicines such as ketosteril and diuretic are prescribed selectively according to patients’ individual condition. Ketosteril is usually taken when glomerular filtration rate is less than 25ml/min. Besides reducing elevated creatinine level, this medicine can also slow the progress of chronic renal insufficiency. Diuretic is able to increase the urine output, so as to remove more creatinine.

2. Dialysis: In some cases, dialysis is recommended when patient’s creatinine level is higher than 5.0 mg/dl. With the principle of semipermeable membrane, dialysis can filter out small molecular substances effectively such as creatinine, urea acid and excess water. Generally, patients on dialysis can find their creatine level declines obviously, but it may rise again during the dialysis session.

The above methods can help us to lower high creatinine level, but they can’t repair the damaged kidney cells or shrink kidney cysts. If you are suffering from a same problem, try to seek some other treatments to improve your kidney function and drain your PKD cysts.
