PKD & Kidney Cysts

Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a group of disorders that result from the formation and progressive enlargement of cysts in the kidneys without dysplasia, usually leading to renal failure.

Can ADPKD (Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease) Be CuredPolycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is a genetic disorder that is characterized by a cluster of cysts on both kidneys. The two major forms of PKD are distinguished by the usual age of onset and the pattern in which it is passed through families.

ADPKD (Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease) is one of the forms of PKD. The other is ARPKD (Autosomal Recessive Polycystic Kidney Disease).

Get facts on ADPKD

Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease is the most common inherited form. Symptoms usually develop between the ages of 30 and 40, but they can begin earlier, even in childhood. About 90 percent of all PKD cases are autosomal dominant PKD.

How serious is ADPKD?

In the early stage, it may cause no symptoms. When the cysts enlarge with age or some other induce factors, this disease will cause kidney damage. More than half of the people will develop Kidney Failure at the age of 50 to 60.

Can ADPKD be treatmentd?

Up to now, there is no treatment for ADPKD, and it is always treated by reducing symptoms, such as back pain, flank pain, abdominal pain, high blood pressure, urinary tract infection, kidney stones, etc.

Even though there is no treatment, timely and proper treatment can prolong the patients’ lives to a large extent.

What are the main treatments for ADPKD?

Treatments for ADPKD vary according to the symptoms. The main treatments for ADPKD include:

● High blood pressure

The two medications most widely used are Angiotensin-converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and Angiotensin-2 Receptor Blockers (ARBs).

● Pain

Your doctor may prescribe you some pain killers based on the severity of painful feeling.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) should be avoided because they could disrupt kidney function and interfere with some anti-hypertensive medications.

If medicines do no work, surgery can be recommended to drain large cysts to relieve the pain caused by the increased pressure.

● Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)

UTIs can often be treated with a course of antibiotic tablets lasting 7-14 days. Drinking lots of water is helpful.

● Kidney Failure

The two main treatment options for kidney failure are dialysis and kidney transplant.

All the above treatments can help ADPKD patients relieve the symptoms, but cannot help them solve the underlying problem, namely, kidney function loss. In that case, I recommend Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy which is more effective and natural.
