Question: My mom is at creatinine level 7. is it dangerous and does she need dialysis?
Answer: Creatinine level 7mg/dl means your mom’s renal function is lower than 15% and your mom is in stage 5 kidney disease. Most people think it is time for dialysis. Are they right?
Generally, when Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) drops to 15mL/min, dialysis should start. It is wrong. Actually there is no a definite level of creatinine for starting dialysis. Some people may not start dialysis even if their creatinine level is higher than 7 mg/dl and GFR is at 5-7ml/min.
When should high creatinine patients start dialysis early?
If patients have uremic symptoms, they should start dialysis earlier. The symptoms are like:
Overwhelming fatigue
Itchy skin
Severe edema
Shortness of breath
Vomiting and nausea
Feel dizzy or faint
When should patients delay the dialysis?
Dialysis is one way for discharging excessive creatinine level from the body, but it is not the only way. What’s more, dialysis is the radical way for elevated creatinine since it does not treat the disease from the root. Thus, if you can treat the disease from the root, dialysis will be delayed. The root cause of high creatinine level is damaged kidneys and declined renal function. If renal function is improved, dialysis will be put off.
Whether creatinine 7mg/dl needs dialysis or not depends on many factors. You can send more your mom’s condition to pkdtreatment169@gmail.com or consult online doctor directly to get more professional advice.
