There are several ways that you can reduce your creatinine levels, including your diet, lifestyle modifications, medications and Chinese herbs. Here we introduce some foods to lower high creatinine levels.
1. Foods with low sodium
Excessive sodium can cause an unhealthy amount of fluid retention and may result in high blood pressure. Both of these issues can result in high creatinine level. Stay away from salty foods and drinks and opt for low sodium of common food products like canned soup, bacon, bottled sauces, processed foods and pickles, etc.
2. Be careful with your protein intake
Avoid foods that are rich in protein as much as possible. Red meat and dairy products can be especially bad for you.
3. Avoid phosphorus-rich foods
Your kidneys are difficult to process phosphorus-rich foods especially if you have high creatinine levels. Thus, you should avoid foods like pumpkin, cheese, fish, shellfish, nuts, low fat dairy products and soybeans.
4. Limit foods with high potassium
Foods high in potassium should be avoided like dried fruits, bananas, spinach, potatoes, beans, peas.
Patients with high creatinine level should eat some diuretic foods like cucumber, watermelon, parsley, etc. Of course, moderation is key so as not to worsen swelling and cause further kidney damage. Besides, patients can eat foods with high vitamin C which is able to improve the regeneration of new tissues and boosting immune system. Cranberries and many fruits can help you achieve the goal. You can consume them based on your specific condition.
