PKD does not mean death or anything if it is controlled in early stage. However, the problem is many patients fail to stop its progression. Well, what will happen if PKD runs to kidney failure stage directly? Read on to find the answer.
1. Physical discomforts
The number one complain among PKD patients is pain feeling which can be lower back pain, groin pain, abdominal pain and kidney pain. However, when PKD develops to kidney failure stage, pain feeling is not the leading one complain any more, as aside from it, patients also experience many other terrible physical discomforts like skin itching, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, extreme tiredness and dizziness and so on.
2. Severe complications
PKD patients develop different complications in different stage, and for patients whose illness has developed to kidney failure stage, they have most of them:
Polycystic liver: Cysts can also develop in the liver and pancreas in cases of PKD.
Kidney stone: Kidney stone is another complication that may also cause pain feeling and blood urine.
Urinary tract infection: Due to numberless cysts in kidney, PKD patients run high risk for frequent urinary tract infection.
Cerebral aneurysm: Cerebral aneurysm is the most rare and serious complication of PKD. If cerebral aneurysm bursts, it will cause bleeding around the brain which can cause brain damage and permanent disability.
3. Dialysis and kidney transplant
Dialysis or kidney transplant becomes a must for life-sustaining if kidneys have failed completely.
4. Death
PKD is not deadly in early stage, but when it develops to kidney failure stage, lethality increases.
