PKD And Genetics People with PKD are very concerned about passing the disease to children. PKD is a genetic disease which gets inherited through the gene, in this way, PKD spreads in families. We will talk about PKD and genetics in detail here.

It is divided into 3 leading categories of PKD:

Autosomal Dominant PKD (ADPKD or PKD)

This kind of PKD is dominant inheritance, which means that only if there is PKd gene in one of pair of chromosome, PKD can occur on people. ADPKD usually causes symptoms for patients at the age of 30-40, and very few at age of 20, which is also the most common kind of PKD. Almost 90% of PKD is ADPKD.

Infantile or Autosomal Recessive PKD (ARPKD)

It is recessive inheritance. Disease occurs on people when there must have genes in both of pair of chromosome. In general, ARPKD can make patients die in some months after birth. It is very rare, 1 in 25.000 people may have ARPKD.

Acquired Cystic Kidney Disease (ACKD)

It appears when kidney is damaged with serious scarring in the long term, and ACKD is related to kidney failure or dialysis. It is shown that 90% of dialysis patients for 5 years can get ACKD. Blood in urine is a characteristic of ACKD for patients.
