Operation is a quick way to remove the kidney cysts and reduce the discomforts for people with simple kidney cysts. But for PKD patients, is operation still a good choice?

Why PKD patients should not do operation to remove the kidney cysts?

There are two kinds of surgeries to remove the kidney cysts. One is to insert a long needle to pierce big cyst and draw out the cyst fluid. To make sure the cyst is fully drained, ultrasound is often used. And the other is laparoscopic surgery. And then it is followed by cauterization to seal the wound.

However, surgery can only remove big cysts rather than small ones. The small cysts around can grow very fast without the pressure from big cysts. Besides, this treatment is an invasive operation. If the operator is not very skilled, the normal renal tissue can be impaired.
