As we all know, cortical renal cyst patients have a high inquiry for diet. A healthy diet is important for patients with kidney cyst because it will help prevent cysts from growing. Well, what are proper food to be eaten if you have renal cortical cyst?
1. Control protein intake
Since animal protein will elevate blood pressure, it should control the animal protein. Too much protein can make your kidneys work too hard. Eating less protein slows down the progressive loss of kidney function and also prevents accumulation of toxic substances in the body. When your kidneys are impaired by kidney cyst, they fail to remove protein by-products from the body, which causes accumulation of toxic substances. High protein foods include chicken, meat, fish, eggs, milk, cream, turkey and yogurt.
2. Low sodium diet
One of the functions of kidneys is to remove excess fluid from the body. When kidney cyst impairs this function, fluid builds up in the body, causing high blood pressure and swelling. A low sodium diet is necessary when kidney cysts cause symptoms of kidney failure. High sodium foods such as canned foods, table salt, seafood and cured meat should be avoided.
3. Red bell peppers
Red bell peppers are low in potassium and an excellent source of vitamin C and vitamin A as well as vitamin B6, folic and fiber. They are good for kidney cyst patients because they contain lycopene, an antioxidant that prevent inflammation.
4. Cabbage
Cabbage is another vegetable for kidney cyst patients. Cabbage is full of phytochemicals that break up free radicals before they can do damage.
