Itchy skin is one of the common clinical symptoms in chronic kidney failure. Itchy skin affects patients’ sleep quality. The causes of itchy skin in kidney failure are related with the following factors:
Causes of itchy skin
1. Nitrogen metabolites retention
Nitrogen metabolites retention will irritate the skin and sebaceous glands and sweat glands will shrink. Dry skin and skin desquamation will occur so as to cause itchy skin.
2. Secondary hyperparathyroidism
Due to secondary hyperparathyroidism, parathyroid hormone secretion increases which can lead to hypercalcemia. Calcium depositing in skin can result in itchy skin.
3. Nervous lesion
Itchy skin caused by nervous lesion belongs to neuropathic itchy skin lesions.
4. Anaphylactic reaction
Some kidney failure patients are easy to suffer from anaphylactic reaction, which can cause itchy skin.
5. High phosphorus level
In kidney failure, the balance of calcium and phosphorus is disordered, because damaged kidneys cannot expel extra phosphorus efficiently. As a result, calcium and phosphorus combines to form crystals that deposit in the skin to cause itchy skin.
Treatment for itchy skin
1. Limit the intake of phosphorus
If you have high levels of phosphorus, you should avoid foods which are high in phosphorus suc as sea foods, nuts, milk, mushrooms and animal plucks.
2. Medicated bath
Medicated bath is to put certain medicines or substances into the water to alleviate discomforts and treat the diseases. The common bath for itchy skin include baking soda bath and peppermint bath.
3. Kidney repair treatment
The root cause for itchy skin is low kidney function so the treatment should repair damaged kidneys and improve renal function. Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy, Immunotherapy, Blood Pollution Therapy can be selected according to your specific condition. When your kidney function is improved, itchy skin can be alleviated from the root. If you have any question, you can leave a message to pkdtreatment169@gmail.com.
