Kidney failure refers to the worst kidney condition and PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) is one of the common causes of it. When kidney failure is caused by PKD, patients will experience a group of symptoms which appear due to decline of kidney function but worsen kidney condition directly if left alone. Therefore, tight control of them is very beneficial for PKD patients. Well, what are the symptoms that PKD patients may experience when illness develops to kidney failure stage?
1. Bloating Abdomen
Compared with people suffering from other kinds of kidney problems, PKD patients are more likely to experience bloating abdomen. PKD is an illness that can cause formation of cyst on kidney. What is worse, these kidney cysts enlarge over time, which may cause kidney enlargement. When kidneys becomes very large, bloating abdomen appears easily. Kidney enlargement is just one of the causes for bloating abdomen and it always indicates serious kidney damages, because large kidney cyst is the real cause of kidney damages in PKD.
2. Gastrointestinal discomforts
The most common gastrointestinal discomforts that PKD patients may experience when their illness is in kidney failure stage include nausea, vomiting and vomiting blood. All these symptoms are related with the buildup of toxins in the blood which should have been removed by kidney. When kidney failure is caused, toxins accumulates quickly. Therefore, PKD patients run high risk for gastrointestinal discomforts when illness runs to kidney failure stage.
3. Frequent rupture of kidney cyst
With progression of PKD, cysts in kidney become larger and larger. Large kidney cysts damage surrounding kidney tissues, leading to decline of kidney function. Therefore, people with kidney failure caused by PKD must have lots of large cysts in kidney. Large kidney cyst ruptures easily, and it may rupture due to mild knock on kidney location. Therefore, PKD patients may experience frequent rupture of kidney cyst when illness runs to kidney failure stage.
4. Skin problems
Skin problems like dry skin and skin itching are also common among PKD patients whose illness have developed to advanced stage.
Lastly, PKD is a problem regarding kidney, but when kidney function is impaired severely, other organs will be affected by high levels of toxins which should have been removed by kidney. At that time, it is very likely for PKD patients to experience various symptoms.
